Lomonosov Private School
The Lomonosov Private School (LS), one of the first Russian private schools, has set its basic goal to provide students with fundamental knowledge developing their intellectual abilities and strengthening their strive for further education. Following classical traditions of the Russian educational system our school prepares its students for entering the best national and foreign universities. Leading positions in various ratings, the top place in the “School of the Year – 2004” Contest, top position in the ratings "Best privat school in Moscow" (2005, 2006), prizes and diploma in competitions and Olympiads confirm the school’s high authority, its teachers’ experience and qualification.
Teaching is based on the “IntellecT” educational technology developed by Dr. (Pedagogy) Marat Ziganov, the LS Research Director. Merits of the technology, actively developing children’s intellectual abilities and making the educational process easier, are highly estimated not only in Russia, but abroad, too. Besides that, the school’s teachers practice an individual approach to each student considering his/her interests and abilities. Employment of the differential system in education provides broad possibilities for students to study school subjects at different levels.
The school staff makes its best to provide our pupils with exclusively comfortable conditions to feel like at home. It is made thanks to well-equipped classrooms, considerate tutors, tasteful “home-made” food, a wide net of sports groups and artistic studios, an intensive cultural program including visits to museums, concert halls and exhibitions, as well as broad opportunities for students’ vivid public, creative and sport activities.
Not without reason our former students keep our school and teachers in their memory. They like to visit the place where a piece of their hearts lives.
The school enjoys stable ties with educational institutions in Russia and abroad. We are always open for new contacts and multi-lateral cooperation.
Welcome to the Lomonosov School!
With our best regards, Sincerely, Vyacheslav Zhdanov, Headmaster.
Curriculum
The students get the 11-year education. A class group includes up to 16 students.
The school’s curriculum is based on classical traditions of the Russian educational system and the original «IntellecT» educational technology, developed by the LS research group headed by Dr. (Pedagogy) Marat Ziganov, the school founder and research director.
The main aim is to provide students with fundamental knowledge developing their intellectual abilities and strengthening their strive for knowledge. The tuition ensures an individual approach to each student corresponding to his/her interests and capabilities. The three-level teaching creates conditions for students to study various subjects on different levels.
The school teachers pay special attention to the development of students’ intellectual abilities. The curriculum includes special classes for 2nd-7th-year students to improve memory and thinking with the original “IntellecT” technology. The technology is widely used in education of senior students, too.
The students start to study English in the 1st form under the advanced education program in combination with several British linguistic courses. The teaching staff includes native speakers. The second foreign language (French, Spanish or German) is added to the curriculum starting from the 5th form. Undergraduates take standard English language exams, including the FCE exam, which enable them to enter a university in English-speaking countries without any preliminary language course.
Instruction on employment of IT and office equipment is started in the 1st year; undergraduates study fundamentals of programming, school students are intensive Internet users. The students can attend optional classes for advanced studyes as well as extra lessons to fill up the gaps in their education.
After-Classes Time
After classes students are under the supervision of tutors. They have meals and time for our-door activities, do their home work and can attend creative studios (sports dancing, theatre, music, computer publishing). Contests, competitions, holiday celebrations and parties are regularly arranged at the school. Participating in the “Gifted Children” Russian Contest the LS students became laureates in two nominations. The school’s creative group “Raduga” (Rainbow) won a diploma and a prize as a final stage participant of the 5th “Golden Amphora” International Children Art Festival in Greece.
Admission
Children are admitted to the 1st form according to the results of an interview with a psychologist, a speech therapist and a primary school teacher.
Admission to 2nd-11th forms is based on the results of tests. The tests are to determine the level of theoretical knowledge and practical skills within the basic school subjects: Russian, Mathematics and English. The tests in Russian and Mathematics are based on the subjects’ basic programs assigned for general education schools and an English test corresponds to the curriculum for advanced English level schools.
Health Service and Sports
The school staff includes psychologists, speech therapists, physicians and sports instructors.
After classes students can attend various sports groups (football, basketball, chess, lawn and table tennis, aerobics, swimming, tourism). The school teams (field athletics, football, tennis and basketball) regularly participate in the competitions among Moscow schools. The LS students have won many medals and diplomas in the city and regional competitions. The school was decorated with the 1st grade diploma “For Excellent Results in Sports Events and Sport Training of Students”.
Friendly matches with football and basketball teams of foreign embassy schools (Anglo-American school, Germany, Poland et al), located in Moscow, are a frequent event, too.
Language training and visits abroad
The foreign language training is regularly arranged for the school students in various countries during the vacations, mostly in summer, in various countries: Great Britain, Germany, Switzerland et al.
Visits for the LS students are often organized to other countries: Austria, Italy, Australia, France, Malta, etc.
The IntellecT International Olympiad
The IntellecT International Olympiad (IO) is an exciting event in the Moscow educational life. Since 1997 it has been held every April attracting hundreds of schoolchildren to participate in the competition. The Olympiad is original and hardly has any analogues – its participants are to demonstrate not only an ability to solve intellectual problems but also to find and formulate such tasks independently for themselves and other children of their age. In fact, the Olympiad participants will be, indeed, the future management elite and they are to demonstrate their creative qualities.
The IntellecT Olympiad is aimed at a wide range of schoolchildren with versatile intellect, tenacious memory and concentrated attention, able to read productively and to learn the education-al materials as well as to use the acquired information. The Olympiad participants do not need in any way to be top students; even average students demonstrate their intellectual abilities, sometimes unnoticed by their school teachers.
Conventional school competitions usually estimate only knowledge of school subjects, practical skills and demonstrations of quickness and sharpness of wits. Some competitions have intellectual nature, but they deal only with several aspects of human intellect.
The IntellecT Olympiad differs in principle from other similar competitions:
1. The IO participants fulfil tasks that help to estimate a development level of human intellect’s basic components, namely: memory, attention, thinking, imagination, thesaurus as well as skills in reading, listening, speaking and writing.
2. The Olympiad doesn’t estimate any abstract intellectual qualities of a child but subject-oriented intellectual ones. Other competitions, as a rule, estimate, especially by means of tests, intellectual indicators using tasks based on abstract material (geometry figures, etc.). Considerable portion of such tasks assumes erudition of a person in those fields, which are well-known for the author of the tasks. But there is no direct dependency between random erudition and intellectual capabilities, necessary for good results in school studies – a real honors school-pupil does not necessary know all US Presidents or components of an industrial device. The Intellect Olympiad participants compete in demonstration of intellectual capabilities directly connected with basic subjects, and all OI tasks are based on school subjects materials studied by a certain age group.
3. The Olympiad estimates a level of intellect, demonstrated not only in solution of problems, set for a person in advance, but in his making up of similar tasks. In fact, a person who has got some positive results in his life doesn’t only solve tasks, that he faces, but is also able to find, make up and set the tasks for other persons.
Every year the Lomonosov Independent School in cooperation with President School (Moscow, Russia) arranges the IntellecT Olympiad held in two stages. To pass the first stage an IO participant is to make up some intellectual tasks, which are forwarded to the Organizing Committee, and to win a number of points necessary to enter the second stage.
The winners of the IntellecT Olympiad in each of the seven age groups are decorated with a gold, silver or bronze medal accompanied with valuable prizes and presents. The absolute winners are decorated with a Grand gold, silver or bronze medal. Additional prizes are handed to children, giving an original solution or several solutions to a certain task.
The IO Organizing Committee is developing such intellectual competitions in foreign languages to be held in different countries.
